The Hong Kong Coalition was officially established today (May 5), with Tung Chee-hwa and Leung Chun-ying, both of whom are vice-chairmen of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as the chief convenors as well as a total of 1,545 people from all walks of life in Hong Kong as co-initiators.
The press conference at the Center was chaired by the Secretary-General, Tam Yiu-chung, and speeches were given by Tung Chee Hwa and Leung Chun-ying.
The coalition announced a “Joint Declaration” calling for adherence to “one country, two systems” and the promotion of Hong Kong’s restart. It also pointed out that only by defending “one country, two systems” can Hong Kong maintain its unique value and have more potentials for further development.
To push Hong Kong for a brand new restart, it is essential to revive the economy and restore the rule of law, so that investors can have confidence and those who abide by the law will not be let down. The coalition also urged people with different political views and from different classes to become united and make it through during this difficult time.
