So the US Republican Party is planning to use an anti-China assault as its primary strategy for November’s presidential election. Much the same can be said of the Democrats. It’s no surprise, as the American political establishment has spent the past three decades brainwashing Americans and the world about China. The campaign went into high gear after Washington failed to regime-change China into a Western-style democracy with the Tiananmen uprising of 1989. A “democratic” China would have been much easier to influence and even control.
US leaders know that with its long history, enduring culture and extremely large population, China would inevitably rise again. Even without intending to challenge American global hegemony, the Chinese were destined to overtake the US as the world largest economy and endanger Washington’s ability to print an unlimited amount of money. There is little America’s elites wouldn’t do to preserve their global hegemony.
US manipulation of public opinion has instilled hatred and distrust towards China from one generation to the next, including among Hong Kong’s anti-government protesters. Truths no longer matter to these people; they would believe and support anything that’s anti-Beijing. To them, anyone who supports China must be an indoctrinated bot or a wumao (50 cents). They would repeat anti-Beijing messages endlessly and seize every opportunity to badmouth their own motherland. Little do they realize they have become the very trolls and bots they accuse China-sympathizers of being.
In the US, ordinary citizens will likely suffer a lot more from COVID-19 as well as a heavily damaged economy. But US elites will ensure it’s all blamed on China, causing Americans to hate China and the Chinese. That would further the goal of the political class to contain China’s growth. Never mind the pain inflicted on America and Americans.
Furthermore, the Republican strategy memo said of the coronavirus crisis: “It is the fault of the Chinese Communist Party for covering up the virus and lying about its danger. This caused the pandemic and they should be held accountable.” The Republicans are trying to hide their Sinophobia by saying they love and respect the Chinese people but only hates the CPC while shifting the blame for their own mismanagement onto China.
We must always remember that unless the Chinese government is controlled by a US puppet, or China’s political system is changed to one the Americans can manipulate, things won’t be much different. Any action Washington claims is just aimed at the CPC is in fact targeted at the Chinese people. By making life hard for them, the US not only disrupts China’s growth but boosts the chances of regime change. It is aware that Chinese judge their government by its performance and ability to improve the country.
“No one has suffered more from the murderous Communist Chinese Party dictatorship than the people of China,” declares the memo. “We stand with them against their corrupt government that caused this pandemic.” That of course is none of the Americans’ business, nor is it something for them to judge. A great majority of the Chinese people support their government and their country’s present political and economic course.
More than anyone, the Chinese know the hardships they had gone through. They have chosen to forgive and support the CPC, for the party has over two generations transformed a backward, poor country into a world power with steadily improving living standards for its people, giving them great hope. That has made all the suffering and sacrifice worthwhile.
No, Chinese people do not need America to stand with them. They just need it to butt out and leave them alone.
